Clothing is a necessity. Killing animals for fashion is not. Every day thousands of animals and birds are poached, tortured and murdered for their skins, feathers and hair. Ethical clothing brings upon a change to the environment and the fauna which depends on it.
To meet the high demands of the fashion industry, several animals are poached and killed day by day . The conditions are worse when exotic animals are needed for their skin . Such animals are already on the verge of extinction due to heavy poaching.
The Cruelty of the Animal Product Industry
Animals like dogs, cats, chinchillas, bears, minks, and sheep are reared or caught for their fur and wool. Most of them are reared in fur farms which have the least hygienic conditions and no regard for the animal or the environment. The animals are caged, ill-fed and killed in the most merciless way possible – they are either suffocated or poisoned. Animals caught in the wild are no exception either. They are caught by painful traps and left to die in the wild.
Fur and wool are natural only when they adorn the animal’s skin. All that people wear is just an animal’s skin treated with a horde of chemicals to do away with the rotting and the smell. When the animal is hanged and skinned alive, the fur or wool is forever stained with the animal’s blood and suffering.
These industries do no good to the environment either. They pollute the water resources with their chemical loaded waste comprising of bleaching agents, preservatives and coloring dyes. We do not need a living being’s skin to beautify ourselves. Imagine skinning a human being to make coats and handbags? There are look-alike and faux fur products which are manufactured without harming animals . PETA has been working with industries and urging them to use animal-friendly fabrics. Let us stop animal cruelty and pave a stronger pathway for Ethical Clothing.
